Early in school, she scored 154 on an IQ test, which put her in the top one percent in the country. A score of 100 is average. At age seven, she moved to a school for kids with high IQs.

    • When she was 13, a horse she was riding galloped into a clothesline. Her neck was gashed open, and she sustained a serious injury. To cover the scars, she wore turtlenecks and scarves.

    • She enrolled at Pennsylvania ‘ Edinboro University at age 15.

    • In the winter of 1974, she was driving on icy roads. Her car door swung open, and though she grabbed at it to stop her fall, she fell out of the car and was hit by a truck. She suffered many lacerations.

    • Within a year of the icy-road accident, a close friend of hers died in a motorcycle accident.

    • When Stone moved to New York to become a fashion model, she was booked solid almost instantly with the prestigious Ford agency. But the scar tissue from her neck injury showed up in photographs. She tried plastic surgery, but that didn’t work. She modeled in Europe, where audiences were more forgiving.

    • Her first film was Woody Allen’s Stardust Memories. She got the job while waiting in line to be an extra.

    • A year after moving to Los Angeles, she won the starring role in Deadly Blessing, directed by Wes Craven.

    • In August 1991, her sister Kelly severely injured her leg in an accident and became addicted to prescription painkillers. Sharon pulled her sister out of her depression, and they founded Planet Hope, a foundation for homeless children.
