even i prefer this version, GP has a softer voice this version is more “femenine”. Original rocks, but i like this one.
She has sung on the new “Optical Illusions” song by William Orbit, and it is beautiful.
This has been an interesting thread to read… and I may be wrong, but as a 41 year old who was around when it all went down, I do believe the 16 year-old is indeed correct. I believe to the song was originally recorded by Jackie DeShannon in ‘74 who cowrote the song. Yes Wiki also states it, but I think in this case it’s truel Cheers!

NO ONE can top the original, such as this track by Kim Carnes….but IF you take a REALLY close at this music and the near-imposible notes she HAD to hit…she did a STONKING good job with this!!!
If you think you could do better….THEN HAVE AT IT!!!!
This is ONE tough as hell song!!! And, I personally applaud her for her efforts. Besides, this tracki went to #3 in Australia!!!

I realise that her version is the best but i was just pointing it out that it wasnt the original!
I like certain sounds of the 80s but i prefer the 70s! I just have this knowledge of the 80s because of mothers huge following in 80s music!
The only version that counts…the one that went to the TOP of the charts, was the one that was released in 1981 by Kim Carnes.
I realize MANY songs have been re-released over the years…but the painful fact of it is that ONLY the ones which reach legendary status, such as the version by Kim Carnes, get the credit.
And I am VERY glad to see people of your generaton embracing the 80’s!!

I may be 16 but i have an odd knowledge about 80s music, it comes from my mom who was around when the song came out, and was around when the original came out in 1974!
