My interpretation because I have a friend that is going through this now. I was the one who told her this guy is no good and she shouldn’t be with him, she didn’t listen to me, and now she’s been hurt.
So she’s at my door and knows I will say I told you so, and as for the guy who hurt her, she has grown from what he put her through, so she will use what she has learned as an example of what never to go through again. She learned her lesson.

Actually I thought this song was about a girl who did wrong to someone else and ended up getting hurt in the process- and she’s explaining it to the guy who has been there for her, forgiving her over and over. She tells him that even though he knew she was going to get burned, she realizes it now and it is a lesson learned.

There ppl on a video about Jazmine Sullivan sayins she’s better than Alicia Keys at singing, not at all. I love Alicia Keys and Jazmine Sullivan, I think they are both very beautiful, and amazing singers, songwriters and performers, but Jazmine is a not a better singer than Alicia because of the simple fact Alicia’s voice is more mature and defined than Jazmine’s.

This song is about a girl done wrong to. But instead of crying about “he hurt me i cant ever forgive him” its about saying “yes i was burned but i called it a lesson learned”. Meaning even tho i am hurting, its fine because I’m going to be strong about it and realize that I’m not going to make that mistake again. I’m going to be strong about it and not make that mistake again. The past is the past, I’m no longer that weak girl that will be running back to u.

the lesson to learn is dat even when u get heart broken u can come back from it a stronger n smarter person. the person doesnt necessarily need to do somethin wrong but u learn dat u can get through dat pain n move on with ur life a stronger person. =]

I hate when people say stupid things like “I learnt my lesson” when they get their heart broken. I got my heart broken and I did nothing wrong. It pains me to say but he did nothing wrong either. He just broke my heart.

you know msgloop, I totally agree with you. heartache and heartbreak is very hard to take and I speak from experience. You can only take it one step at a time day by day it gets a little better. What does not kill you will only make you a stronger person. Like Alicia says I call it a lesson learned.

I love this song because it shows that there is life after heartache. We do not have to become bitter individuals when there is a breakup if we accept it for what it is and learn from it.

Never been heartbroken myself by a lover, but I feel that I feel Alicia’s pain after listening to this, after hearing the strength of her vocals throughout the song.
I feel intense pain after hearing this.
